About Bastille
The historical Place de Bastille, once the epicenter of the French Revolution, is now home to the Opéra Bastille, cafés, markets, and more. To its west lies the trendy and popular Marais neighborhood. To its east, a true Parisian neighborhood with the Marché d'Aligre (one of the best markets in the city); the Gare de Lyon that houses an exquisitely ornate restaurant, "Le Train Bleu," and connects Paris to southern France and beyond; and the Viaduc des Arts, a rehabilitated elevated railway with the verdant Promenade Plantée / Coulée Verte above, and cafés and shops below. The Canal St Martin runs in between, and the Seine right below.
